The Story
Hypothesis
My kids are given 10–20 “words of the week” at the start of each school week. The idea was to turn that list into something more interactive by gamifying how they practice and review the words throughout the week. By letting them quickly quiz themselves on their own devices, the experience becomes more engaging and effective than simply rewriting the words over and over.
The Build
The app was built using Replit and leverages the OpenAI API in several ways. It generates on-demand example sentences for each word, provides quiz questions and learning tips within a “Learn It” mode, and includes text-to-speech so the app can read words and sentences aloud to the user. Adding a new week’s word list is intentionally simple—just pasting in a plain text list is enough to have everything ready to go.
